The upper section of the main fork of the Cimarron are an excellent place to enjoy small stream fishing for wild trout. The further you hike, the fewer people you will see and the fishing will improve with each bit of effort.  Expect dry dropper for the best fishing, though you can certainly throw a single or double dry with success as well.  The river easily gets blown out from too much rain or runoff so mid to late summer is the safest bet to not get into blown out water.  The river is small up here and can easily be fished from either side of the river when flows are right.  Make sure if you encounter another angler, to give plenty of space for the other angler.  I’d skip at least 300 yds up or downstream to ensure you don’t spoil the fishing for the other anglers in this pristine and wild environment.
