Dolores river suffers from low flows and ranchers draining the river, but when the flows remain above 100cfs, the fishing is good.  The river is slow and delicate drifts are needed to fool the trout, but some sizeable fish are found in the river that hold out from year to year.

As of 2022 the river went completed dry and likely experienced nearly 100% fish kill.  At this time I don’t recommend this as a viable fishery.  Hopefully it comes back, but for now I’d fish above the reservoir up to the headwaters or the west fork.
