There was an epic flood in 2013 that reduced the fish count by as much as 80% in this section of the river.  Road damage and significant altering of the rivers bed an path were a result.  In the longer run, this will improve the fishery as it clears sediment and parasites out from the river, however, the river will take time to heal.

That being said, this river still holds over 1500 fish per mile and is a great place to get out for the day and enjoy what Colorado front range fishing is all about.  Many small to medium sized fish and a lot of opportunity for any angler that can throw a fly.  A good mix of runs, riffles and holes exist from Drake all the way down into Loveland.  Access is easy and fish are willing.  Standard dry – dropper rigs will hook the most fish and make the day more about catching than it is about finding the right fly and presentation.
