Possibly one of the most under-rated fisheries in the state, the poudre holds a great variety of rainbows, browns, cutthroat, cutbow and whitefish ranging in sizes 4” to 20”.  Most of the fish caught will be in the 10”-14” range and most often be browns and rainbows.  That said, it is a mixed bag up here and depending on the sections you fish, you can find some sizeable fish.  Over 65 miles of fishable water and more access points than you could fish in month, you will have no problem finding a good place to fish.  It gets fished pretty heavily on the weekends and is the primary river around Ft. Collins, but getting up to the upper canyon will spread out the crowds letting you find some peace and tranquility and a good variety of fish.

A variety of water can be found so explore different access points to find the section that meets your adventure.  Dry dropper works best unless the water is fast or deep, then a tightline nymph rig or two-fly nymph with an indicator will produce well.  Fish can be fickle so it pays to know what they are eating above or below the surface with a bug seine from our Entomology Course.
