Unfortunately Cement Creek holds few, if any fish. As good and as beautiful as it looks, it is void of all life including even insects. The Silverton area is known for having many mining operations back in the day, and even a few still currently. Some of these creeks and rivers have experienced either accidental spills or contain so much iron, lead, copper, and arsenic making it near impossible for life to exist. Due to the nature of these surrounding “red” colored mountains, unfortunately it is the nature of the beast. Although some remain full of fish and are listed in our River Explorer as fishable streams. In this circumstance, it is still worth visiting. The views are jaw dropping and it gives you a look into what the old mining days would have looked like.
