Homestake creek is a small creek up above minturn that holds a ton of brown trout.  They aren’t big, but the scenery more than makes up for the lack of trout size.  You’d expect brook trout in this section with all the beaver ponds and water type, but the brown trout dominate this section off 24. Brook trout show up the higher the elevation gets.  Homestake reservoir makes this a tailwater fishery, but it fishes like a freestone and it still freezes over due to size in the winter making it a good place to fish from late spring to late fall.   It’s a great place to fish if you’re in the Vail area and want to get off the beaten path.
