Jack creek was a creek I discovered when one of my camping spots I was going to use, was already taken.  This was a bummer but it lead to me finding nearby water and doing more exploring which is always a joy.  I found Jack creek to be difficult fishing when the water is high, but as the summer flows stabilize the fishing can be excellent for a bunch of small brook trout.  You aren’t catching anything large here, but you are going to catch some numbers if the flows and weather is right.  It can be difficult to time that so it’s just worth hitting up sometime in mid June to late July and hoping for the best.  There are some beaver ponds infested with moose (so be careful) and big deep willows provide an excellent habitat for the moose and brook trout.

Small to medium sized attractor dries, nymphs and streamers will take trout in most areas.  You’ll need to work on your tight-water casts here like the bow and arrow cast and roll casts to keep out of the willows.  For the angler looking for some solitutde and wild trout, Illinois creek and Jack creek combined will provide a great adventure.
