Muddy Creek is a lesser known tailwater that is notorious for having more mosquitos than fish.  Luckily for that metaphor, there are a lot of mosquitos which means good fish numbers too.  These fish are chunky and do well down here feeding on a variety of hatches that come out.  Access requires 4wd and if it’s going to rain, stay out of the access, the road down and up is steep and next to a cliff.  A muddy car would be in trouble up that hill in a wet road.  You can park roadside or up by the dam to access it during poorer weather.  Fish aren’t always the easiest to catch here as is most tailwaters, but with some patience and good fly selection you can have a great day down here.  Located in the heart of Kremmling and next to the Colorado, this area gets overlooked often.  Fish in long sleeves and pants and bring plenty of bug spray and you can find some fun fishing on this gorgeous meandering tailwater.
