Anthracite Creek is a great little creek that doesn’t get much traffic or publicity.  To get there, you have to pass over dozens of excellent fishing rivers and most don’t have the patience.  While the rivers that get in the way are likely better fishing, you can experience some solitude and likely a new river that you haven’t fished before.  For anglers who have fished most of the major rivers in CO and are looking for something new, that still gives you options to fish other great rivers if this river doesn’t produce, it’s a great adventure.

Best fished in the later summer into fall when the flows drop and become more stable, it is great dry-dropper fishing.  You can go all dries too and have success, but a dropper really helps pick up fish as you work the water.  Don’t spend too long in one place, cover lots of water and explore this area, there is some great scenery and you have lots of river to yourself most times.

The pictures were taken during run-off and I haven’t updated them until I make it back there.  If anyone has some updated ones, we’d be happy to update the photos.
