The Big Thompson begins up in Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP) and flows down through Estes Park, through Loveland and then eventually connects with the South Platte River out east.  The RMNP Section is an excellent section of water that holds Rainbows, Browns and Brook trout in it’s waters.  When you enter the park, you can drive and access the meadow section of the river by car.  The upper reaches are reserved to those who are willing to hike Fern Lake Trail.  The meadows is most heavily fished but likely holds the largest fish due to the structure of the water.  The fish are fairly easy to catch but require stealth as they see a lot of anglers.

You can’t get more scenic surroundings than this section of the Big T.  An excellent day trip option for anyone looking to catch beautiful fish in beautiful places.
