Cottonwood creek is a small freestone stream that comes in from cottonwood pass.  When the Arkansas gets crowded or even blown out, you can often fish this stream with good success.  The fish aren’t large, but the water is fun and throwing your dry fly from pocket to pocket after eager trout is a great way to spend a day.  Watch for weather as it can change quickly up on the collegiate peaks and bring some food and water for your trip.  It’s an excellent day trip if you’re already up in the Buena Vista area and it’s worth keeping on your radar if you’re looking to beat the crowds and find some smaller and eager fish.
