hermosa-creek-1The beauty of Hermosa creek is unmatched by most rivers in Colorado.  Large boulders create excellent holding water for trout and great pocket water awaits in the higher gradient sections.  Most of the fish are 8”-14” but there are some larger fish that inhabit this stream and provide anglers with a good opportunity for a great memory.  The upper reaches are easier to explore as there is a road that accesses both the East fork and the main fork.  Downstream you can hike the hermosa trail and the river follows the trail all the way to the confluence with the Animas.  There are tons of places to fish on this river and it’s pretty much all public.  It’s a Colorado gem and gives anglers a chance for brook, rainbow and cutthroat trout.  There are also colorado river cutthroat in this section if you enjoy chasing specific species which are remarkably beautiful.
