Laramie River Fishing Information
Lower Section - near Walden, CO
The lower section (hohnholz SWA) changes the design of the river and produces more meadow fishing with some great scenery and greater variety of trout in species and size. Rainbows, Cutbows and Browns are caught here and in the lakes. There are 3 lakes near the Hohnholz campground area so you can camp and fish stillwater and streams as well as the surrounding inlet creeks. Solitude is fairly easy to find as there isn’t much else around here aside from fishing and farming so you can often enjoy solitude, especially during the weekdays.
On your way to the lower section, you’ll come across the upper section which is a fun option to fish as well. The upper section of the Laramie river sees little pressure and has a lot of access. Filled with small and eager brown and brook trout, you can fish this area in the summer and the fall. The road is closed until June most years so treat it like a high mountain lake as far as availability and access.

Midge Hatches
Midges hatch year round, but their importance is from September through winter into April. During the warmer months, the trout often focus on larger insects as they are more active on the water like mayflies, caddis and stoneflies.
Aside from Blue wing olives, mayflies are active most commonly from May to August in Colorado. There are many different mayfly hatches found on most rivers and the most common are listed below.

Stonefly Hatches
We have some great stonefly hatches in Colorado and while not all rivers carry all species of salmonflies, you can often fish stonefly adult patterns with confidence from May to September. Start off in bigger sizes and get smaller till September hits (size 8 - 16)
